I suffer from temporomandibular joint dysfunction (TMJ) and wear an appliance 24-7 over my bottom teeth in order to maintain the correct anatomical position of my jaw. The reality of needing an extraction on a tooth which was hopeless was devastating news. For me, it meant that I could no longer wear the appliance so vital to my overall health.

When I first went in to have my surgery done I was very nervous, but the staff put me at ease with their friendliness and courtesy. The staff talked to me throughout the surgery to keep my mind on other things that helped tremendously while waiting. The environment was comfortable and relaxing. When my surgery was complet, Dr. Rebecca Bye gave me a mirror to look at my gums and it did not look like the same mouth. It was amazing how fast and perfect everything turned out. The pain and swelling was very minimal afterwards as long as you ice your mouth. I was up and about the next day watching a baseball game. Before my surger I never wanted to take pictures or even show people what my gums look like, but now all I want to do is take pictures and show everyone how perfect my mouth is. If my gums were to return the way they used to look I would repeat the surgery in a heartbeat. Now that I have had the surgery, I never want to go to another dentist. I highly recommend Dr. Bye. During one of my regular cleanings with my hygienist, she informed me that I needed to have some surgery done to prevent the loss of my teeth. This procedure is known as pocket reduction, and is done by a doctor who specializes in this type of work. Without going into complete details of the procedure, I was told that it was extensive in trying to get the bacteria out away from the gums and teeth.

On the day of my surgery, I was made to feel quite comfortable before the doctor began. I was given something to numb my gums and I didn’t feel anything. Dr. Rebecca Bye explained to me what she was going to be doing, and asked me if I had any questions or concerns. Of course I was concerned. It was my mouth that was going to be in a lot of pain, but I was worrying for nothing. During and after the surgery I had very little pain. I even went as far as to tell Dr. Bye at my follow up visit that she could do anything that she wanted to in my mouth. Was I afraid? Yes, but I knew that I needed this taken care of, so I put my fears aside and had the surgery. The whole time during the surgery I felt nothing, and I really don’t remember any bad experiences that day.

When I went home I was given pain prescriptions that I did get filled, but I didn’t need to use it because the pain was not unbearable. I think I may have used it two times.

My experience at Dr. Bye’s office was one of disbelief. After all, when you go to see the dentist, aren’t you suppose to have pain during and after the visit? This time my pain wasn’t something that would keep me from getting more surgery done if necessary.

I would like to express my complete satisfaction with the care, treatment and results of my recent implant surgery.

The entire procedure, involving both bone grafting and implant placement was thoroughly explained to me along with detailed instructions for pre and post operative care. Every effort was made to insure that I was as comfortable as possible during each step. I was able to choose how much sedation I wanted each time and felt no pain during surgery.

The staff was uniformly supportive and solicitous. Dr. Rebecca called me after each procedure to see how I was doing. She was available to provide reassurance and answer my questions even when I telephoned her at home on a Saturday morning.

Unfortunately I lost all of my natural teeth at a pretty young age. I have had all of the usual difficulties with my upper and especially my lower dentures. Dr. Fred Bye told me that over the years the pressure of the dentures has caused me to lose bone and my dentures had become more and more loose.

My food choices were becoming more and more limited, my gums were sore and I was worried my lower denture would move unexpectantly and embarrass me in public. I know I couldn’t continue to live like this as my quality of life was truly going downhill.

I am thrilled with my lower implant-denture. It is as close to the real thing (having my natural teeth) as I can remember. There is no movement to the denture and I can eat whatever I want to. The implant-denture is completely comfortable and looks great. The denture and implants are easy to clean and take care of.

Dr. Fred is very personable and easy to talk to. I felt very comfortable discussing all of my concerns and I felt his genuine desire to help me.

As you know, verbally I have expressed my gratitude multiple times for the crown-lengthening procedure that you performed on me. From day one I considered the results to be amazing. But the ongoing complements I receive on my smile improvement has compelled me to sit down and write you this letter.

First of all, the sedative you administered during the procedure made the process a breeze. Not once during the process did I experience any level of discomfort, and except for some very tiny sutures that went unnoticed by most, the brief healing period was a synch just as you said it would be.

What I find to be most impressive is the routine compliments from those individuals who have known me for some time now. My family, friends, colleagues and business associates routinely ask me in one way or another, what have I done to improve my smile?

I have always felt like my teeth appeared to be shorter than normal, and because I have been in the dental profession for more than 15 years, I have known for some time that this procedure was a viable option. As you know, I work with well over 100 skilled periodontists in Maryland and Washington, DC. But even after discussing my options with many of these doctors, I was never fully comfortable with having crown lengthening done until I spoke with you, understood you protocol and saw other cases you performed. Largely due to my knowledge of your and Dr. Rebecca’s advanced training, experience, meticulous approach, and reputation for excellence, I could not imagine having this procedure performed on myself by anyone else.

So I thank you once again for what you have done for my confidence and my smile. I am no longer self-conscious about how friends view my smile, or how other dental professionals perceive the esthetics of my soft tissue when I give a big smile. I want to thank Dr. Fred Bye and his entire staff for their fabulous efforts in the implant rehabilitation of my upper arch. They worked closely with my general dentist to provide me with an implant supported complete denture. I honestly feel that my new teeth look, feel and function better than my original natural teeth. Dr. Fred told me I should have at least 80% of "ideal" function with my new prosthesis, but I feel like I could eat a "two by four" right now. At a routine dental appointment when I turned 50 I was made aware that I should look into getting implants for the lower right and left side of my mouth. I had lost the molars on both sides when I was in my late teens and since they have not been there the upper teeth were beginning to drop.

I was referred to Dr. Fred Bye. I knew very little about what getting this work done would entail but he explained the entire process and answered all my questions. He explained that the work would take time to complete. I understood that this would help preserve my upper teeth and also contribute for my overall dental health so I decided to have this procedure done.

The staff was very efficient, friendly and professional. I had the surgery done to build up the bone on the left side of my gums. This needed to be done so that I could have the implants placed. This initial surgery was done with no complications. Six months later it was time to get the implants. Dr. Bye was very precise in placing them and again no complications.

I cannot tell you how happy I am. I now have a full set of teeth. I cannot believe I waited so long to have had this work done. I would highly recommend him and his staff. At no time during the process was I not completely satisfied.

I would like to express my appreciation to Dr. Fred Bye and his entire staff for returning my mouth to my normal function and appearance.

Unfortunately, I had to lose an upper bridge in the front part of my mouth because of a root fracture for one of the anchor teeth. Rather than make me a bigger bridge which would be even more likely to have future problems, my dentist referred me to The Center for Advanced Periodontics and Implantology for a consultation.

I was relieved to learn that Dr. Bye could remove the hopeless tooth and place implants. I had been missing a lower molar for many years and decided to have Dr. Fred also "grow" some bone in that area to permit me to have a molar implant/crown as well.

Dr. Fred and my dentist worked together beautifully to restore my smile and I can now eat anything I want to.

The surgery didn’t hurt nearly as much as I thought it would.

I am simply very pleased and would do it all again in a heartbeat.
